Company Profile
- Kelso is a sheep genetics company which has developed two large scale breeding programmes over the last 50 years. The Kelso (Maternal Sire) and Ranger (Terminal Sire) breeding flocks are run on five farms from Gisborne to Southland all genetically linked.
- The breeding programmes utilise DNA parentage, progeny testing and gene markers (MyoMAX®) in conjunction with large scale breeding flocks to maximise genetic gains. The result is a breeding programme which consistently produces the top genetics in the country (Top Ram 2005/06 in New Zealand for Meat and Growth – Alliance Central Progeny Test).
- The aim of the business is to provide market leading sheep genetics to commercial farmers to increase profitability
Activities Include
Promoting the sale of Kelso (Maternal Sire) and Ranger (Terminal Sire) Rams to commercial farmers.
The sourcing and sale of Kelso and Ranger lambs from breeders to finishers and meat processors.
The facilitation and sale of Kelso breeding stock including ewe lambs and mixed age ewes.
Sale of Kelso and Ranger Semen to domestic and international markets.
Sale of Kelso™ and Ranger™ Embryos to domestic and international markets.
